Birth Doula

Antenatal sessions
In your home (or another place of preference)

I offer three antenatal sessions. During these sessions we could explore:
> Your thoughts, hopes, concerns or expectations for giving birth
> Your different options for giving birth including how birth physiology works, the role of hormones in birth, the role of interventions, options for pain management
> Your different options for where you could give birth
> Exploring and defining choices within your birth plan, help with writing your birth preferences
> Exploring comfort strategies and techniques for birthing, including breath work, relaxation, massage, nourishment
> Creating a postnatal recovery plan and preparing for the transition to parenthood

> Optimal foetal positioning, what you can do facilitate this during your pregnancy
*If required we can arrange further sessions at an hourly rate. I can also join you for appointments with a midwife or consultant.

Labour and birth
I will be on call (available 24 hours a day), from one week before your estimated due date until you give birth. As with the antenatal sessions, my support for the birth will be unique and in response to our conversations during our antenatal meetings. If required I can:
> Hold the space, and enable moments for decision making if required
> Offer physical support during labour through helping with positions, massage, relaxation, grounding and breathing
> Provide emotional support for you and your partner
> Help with setting up the birthing space, such us constructing and filling a pool (if using one), creating a relaxed atmosphere including lighting, music, affirmations, the use of aromatherapy oils
> Ensure everyone is keeping nourished!

I can stay with you after your baby has arrived to offer any further support if required, including support with the first feed.

Debrief
In your home (or another place of preference)
We will meet following the birth, when you are ready. During the debrief we could discuss your experience of labour and giving birth. We could also explore:
> The transition in to the forth and final trimester
> How feeding is going and whether you might need support/advice
> The transition into parenthood/or ‘matrescence’ (a lesser know term which defines the physical, emotional, hormonal and social transition to becoming a parent)

Shared Care

As a Birth Doula I have teamed up with Hannah Kemlo to offer shared care, meaning we both attend your antenatal visits and are both there to offer an enhanced level of  care, support and expertise. Working together also means you will always have access to a doula whenever you require.
